Weekly News

Here are a few things to know for next week:

-Expert Presentations begin on Monday.  Look at the green paper for your child's presentation date and time.  I am really excited to see the presentations!

-I will start the end of year literacy assessments on Monday.  These assessments include recognizing the alphabet, knowing letter sounds, rhyming, beginning sounds, concept of word, spelling simple words, and reading.

-Field trip permission slips are due Friday, May 1.  Please send cash because checks create accounting issues.  Thank you.

-Field Day t-shirts have been ordered!   Please send in $3.50 to help cover the cost of the shirts and fabric paint.

-The last book order of the year was sent home today.  You are not obligated to purchase books from it, but it is an opportunity to purchase fun and inexpensive books that the kids will enjoy reading over the summer.  It is really important to keep kids reading over the summer.

Wednesday update

Happy Wednesday!  Just a few reminders.

As you send in money for the field trip and t-shirts, please send cash.  It is difficult to cash checks made out to the school (accounting issues).  Sorry for the inconvenience.  Permission slips for the field trip on May 13 are due May 1.

Just a reminder: The last day of school is Thursday, May 21.  We will display all Expert Presentations at 10:00.  Parents are invited and encouraged to attend as we marvel at all the wonderful work that was done.  After that, we will go outside for the all school picnic.  After the kids are finished eating, you are able to check them out and let the fun of summer vacation begin!

Today we read Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett.  We made a circle map describing a cloudy day.   After reading the story, we talked about the characters, setting, main idea, and how we knew it was a fiction book.  On Wednesday, we will write about what kind of food we would like to see the weather bring.

Busy Week!

We are still in need of empty 2 liter bottles for a project during our plant unit.  If you have empty bottles, please send them to school.

On Wednesday, our 5th grade buddies came to our room and helped us complete a project about the water cycle.  We learned about evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and collection.  Talk to your child about these words.  It will help them remember the water cycle.

On Monday, we read How to Wash a Wooly Mammoth by Michelle Robinson.  We talked about mammals and the steps needed to wash a wooly mammoth.

Welcome Back!

Welcome Back!  I hope everyone enjoyed a fun and restful spring break!  We have a couple of fun projects coming up.

Please send in 2 liter bottles.  We will use these for a project during our plant unit.

Traditionally, my class decorates t-shirts for field day.  These are a lot of fun to make and are wonderful keepsakes.   To cover the cost, please send in $3.50 cash (checks are difficult to cash).  This covers the cost of the shirt and the fabric paint.

Permission slips for the field trip will be sent home on Friday.

If you have any questions about the Expert Presentations, feel free to send me an email.   I hope everyone is enjoying this project.

Happy Spring Break!

Enjoy a beautiful, restful spring break!  I look forward to seeing the kids on Monday, April 13!

Visit MyOn during Spring Break.  The school that has the most visits will earn money for literacy instruction!

Eco-Cycle visited our classroom today and talked to the kids about recycling.  The children learned what can be recycled and what needs to go in the trash.
